1,372 students get MTN Foundation scholarships.
Telecom giant MTN has awarded 1,372 scholarships to high-performing and visually-impaired students through the MTN Foundation.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the foundation, Ambassador Hamzat Ahmadu, while presenting the fifth MTNF Science and Technology Scholarship awards held in Lagos.
Ahmadu, who was represented by a Director of the MTNF, Aishatu Sadauki,
said 1, 205 of the beneficiaries were high-performing science and
technology students while the remaining were 67 brilliant,
visually-impaired students completed the total of 1372.
The
Chairman noted that the scholarships show the foundation's commitment
to supporting Nigeria's future leaders and celebrate academic
excellence.
“Our impact goes beyond statistics and
figures; to shaping Nigeria’s future through education; to making an
investment in the lives of tomorrow’s leaders by providing them with an
opportunity to pursue their dreams despite financial limitations,” he
said.
“We are here to celebrate academic
excellence of students who have worked extremely hard and who
unquestionably deserve an opportunity to continue to pursue their dreams
of higher education."
Ahmadu urged the beneficiaries to remain focused.
Each
of the awardees will get N200,000 (two hundred thousand Naira to cover
tuition, book allowances and living allowances for one academic year.
The
scholarship is renewed every year until graduation, as long awardees
maintained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or its equivalent (second class
upper/upper credit).
One of the recipients, Simon Peter Erhue, a Metallurgical and Material Engineering student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), told Punch that the scholarship would help them attain their dreams.
